INTERNET ART: networks, performative programming, and web as context

Don’t Mistake Sunday for Saturday

This was an internet art piece that showcased how a good craving can lead to mistaken availability. This wasn’t meant to be a super deep, or thought provoking piece but something more light-hearted. I wanted to use the style of Snap Chat/ Quick Camera Filming and Sound to get the effect.

Forgive me Lord, for I have Trolled

I have trolled so very hard. I was originally going to do a an informative video about why Trump is literally the worst thing to happen to America but that seemed overdone and ignored…it seems as if people have no desire to take in loads of information, at least in my age group. I decided to make more light hearted posts leading up to the election that were short designed to either ruffle feathers or capture my (and many others) feelings about voting this election. I also decided that instead of the cliche overdone selfie with a voting sticker I filmed a short video that I really reflects how most people felt after leaving the polls.

Sometimes gesture is far more affective than bombarding people with statistics and facts.

Internet Art Performance/Experience

Initially, for this project I was thinking of doing a stop motion film because I was inspired by an artist who actually focuses on that. After researching the process of how to make one, I suddenly realize that it was something that I should not do given with amount of time and the quality that I want my work to be.

After some brainstorming, I was thinking about how not only the internet has changed the was we view videos and capture moments. For example, when I was younger I remember for every special occasion my mom would record the events (Yes, with the huge camera recorders from the 90s). Nowadays it is so easy for us to capture our lives and we are able to do this with just a click on our phones and share with our family and friends through our social media accounts.

This semester, I was advised by one of my instructors that I should keep records of my progress of my work and I decided to use this opportunity to record a specific moment when I was in the studio working on a project for printmaking. I then decided to post this in my personal Facebook account to share with my family and friends because I know it would definitely get feedback because they are familiar with the works I post.screenshot_2016-11-08-13-36-542

Given the opportunity, I would do more videos of the whole process, instead of doing just a small portion. In the past, I have found it interesting to watch other people’s techniques through their videos and how their works developed throughout time.My video is just a small portion and after reflecting, I would problem post it to an art-based community to get more feedback.

Evolution Of Dance (net performance)

I went towards the route of doing something in relation to dance, because it is something I love to do, but I also wanted to experiment with something I have never done before, so I did the evolution of dances from the 1920s to today.  Except that catch was that my hands became my feet.  The usage of my whole body became a limitation.  I could only utilize my hands.  That, itself was very difficult, because there are a lot of things I can do with my feet in dance versus my hands.  (fingers)  I posted it on Facebook, but still await responses…(Received some responses …positive)

A Talk About Gender

I decided to go on a different path for this project than I initially planned after a conversation with my mom this past weekend about Gender and how I identify. I’ve always found it hard to express my gender identity or explain it to others in a way that they could understand.

This still doesn’t express everything I feel or explain it in a clear way, but it was a few thoughts I had while i decided to make myself in Sims4 after playing around with their character creation and the new genderless aspects they introduced into the game.

I hope to remake this or elaborate on this when I am more able to gather my thoughts about this topic and who I am.

Internet Performance pt 1

For this performance I decided to enter and explore what is known as the Dark Web. The internet started off as a method of communication between international and national networks in computers. It has now evolved into something more…intimate and disturbing. The Dark Web is where the ugliest side of human nature is most prevalent. There, you can find illegal porn (child, animal, rape, etc.), hitmen services, stolen cards, and much, much more. Originally, I had planned on uploading an edited video of me exploring these sites, but scrapped that idea. I realized not only is the Dark Web disturbing to see, it is also full of illegal sites. Because of this, no one would dare to announce to the world that they are on it to the world. This made me come to the decision of doing a live stream where I would explain how to get on the Dark Web and how to be safe and anonymous on it. So, I did just that. I uploaded this live stream to my YouTube account.
