Making Pennies with Swag

For my project I signed up for the website http://www.swagbucks.com/. This website allows you to watch videos, fill out surveys, sign up for email alerts, and other things to earn “swagbucks.” These can then be collected and then turned in for gift cards and other prizes. I decided to see how much I could earn by doing as little as possible and see how much spam and advertisement I would have to endure. Immediately I was told to turn off my ad block, yes some of the links wouldn’t work as long as I had it on. This helped my case of wanting to do as little as possible on the website and earn as much points as possible. I took a survey which asked a lot of personal questions I was not willing to answer. From that I decided surveys were not the answer. My next step was videos. You can watch so many minutes of videos and they reward you. I clicked on the first link which was a set of 6 videos that spanned 37 minutes. I let the videos play while I worked on other tasks and came back to find out I made $0.02 and was hit with some emails while they palyed. Overall I decided Swagbucks was not worth the time and effort you’d have to put in to earn a significant amount of points. Here is a video I made of the experience with Swagbucks.

Online Kissing Booth

Back when I was a freshman in college I went to a halloween party where I met my boyfriend at the time. He was dressed as a kissing booth and was selling $1 kisses and 50 cent hugs. He made something like $100 that night and got mono. So I thought that would be something interesting to try to do over the internet, but without the mono. How can I create an online kissing booth?

So I went online and made a special Tinder account for a made up girl and started swiping right on everyone. After a lot of debate Tinder was the best format for this because I didn’t need to give any information expect for my name and a picture. Just like if someone saw me on the street they would only be able to tell what I looked like and my prices for kisses and hugs.

For this project I had no intention to actually messaging anyone back or taking their money. I just wanted to see how many people would be interested in it by matching with me (danielle) and if they would message me about the prices. I only used one picture and the only thing people could see about danielle was her age and the bio where the prices were listed.

Turns out a lot of people were interested in my kissing booth. Over the course of 3 days Danielle got matched with 30 men and women and 8 of those 30 people messaged me. Out of those 8 people who messaged me 6 asked about the prices and things. It all got very creepy but I will call it successful and feel much better after I delete the account. IMG_0627.jpgIMG_0628.jpg

Yes, if looks like I was totally Catfishing all of these people on Tinder. Sorry Tinder people, this was just an experiment.

Kyle and I collaborated on this project. Together we searched high and low on Craigslist and the OSU Free and for Sale Facebook page to see what we could get. The idea was inspired by a guy who, a few years ago, started trading on Craigslist with an old phone and ended up with a Porsche.

Why is this adventure of ours art? Well why is Yoko Ono’s “Cut Piece” and marina Abramovic’s “Rhythm 0” art? They are art because they test the audience. They leave the artist’s fate up to the audience. Our adventure with online trading/selling websites/webpages is almost completely based on the audience as well.

Project 2

For this project, I had thought long and hard about things like what could I sell, buy, trade, with someone over the internet while being personal and also artistic. I had researched many ways to make money off the internet and even ways to get someone to do something but felt that it was vague. So then, what I thought of, that would be personal and artistic, was I could give my time.

Time is a very important thing and I felt that it is something that people are always running out of (there’s a demand for it). The difficult part of giving my time to someone is how I would give it. It’s not like I could sell off my lifetime to someone to add to theirs. So then I thought that if I could not give time in that way, I could give my time by listening to people and maybe extending their lifetime that way instead.

I heard many stories about how the lack of communication and how people fail to listen are problematic these days. The importance of giving their time to listen to others is extremely necessary. There are researches that show how people fail to listen to a someone can cause them to have stress, which can cause depression and later lead to suicide. (I think I’m might have gone too far with that but I think you get what I mean..anyway) Humans are social beings and usually, would like to feel that they are not alone and that they have someone that cares. So, I decided to give my time, by listening to what people would like to say.

How I had done this project was that would let people anonymously call me through the internet to talk about anything they would like to talk about but still being anonymous. People then would be able to securely talk about what they usually can’t or wouldn’t talk about to be able to say things they would like to say.

How people can contact me is by using this website called Gruveo. Here, people can call from the internet without having to download anything and that they would only need my contact ID name to call me. If they would like their voice to be anonymous, they could use a text and speak website that allows someone to type and the computer will speak for you. http://columbus.craigslist.org/crs/5783252290.html

I went towards an unheard of route unless you have friends with Bit Coin.

I have recently gone towards Doge Coin.

http://dogecoin.com/

I set up a wallet on my phone and started “mining” and collecting Doge Coin at what’s known as “Faucets.”

This is a moderately well known alternative money source  through digital means.

Now as an artist in the digital age, we have to make ourselves known through digital means: Facebook, Instagram, etsy, deviant art and other big social media sites. But, I’m going with the underground. The reason I’m mining these Doge coins is to eventually buy ad space on Reddit and other sites that take the digital currency. Or to buy other means of supplies or maybe even food.

As our society comes ever closer to an exclusive digital currency. I am jumping on the bandwagon now rather than later.
